Year 2 – Beech

Hello,

Welcome to Year 2 Beech! I will be teaching Year 2 this year with the help of Mrs Waite who will be working across KS1. We also have Mrs Booth and Mrs Firth who will be teaching our PE and ICT.

We have a very exciting topic to start off the Autumn term! The Greatest Showman! The children chose this topic at the end of last year! They have loved learning about the history of the circus and can’t wait to find out more. We have made big top tents and we are practicing our circus skills for our performance for the parents. You’re all invited to come and watch!

After Christmas we will move onto a really exciting topic called The Jungle Book! We are going to learn about lots of different animals and find out about where in the world they live. We are going to learn the names of all the continents and oceans too!  We will be learning about endangered animals and creating some art work that we can sell to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund. We hope to see you for our fundraiser in February!

We will also be doing a short topic based on the film ‘Up’. The children were really interested in balloons and science. We will be kicking the topic off with a big balloon investigation that we would like you all to join in with. This topic is going to be focused all around Science, Art and Design & Technology.

And finally… Monster, Myths and Unicorns! We have lots of interesting and fun activities planned for this topic. We want the children to get lost in their imaginations…

In the spring term, we will have our SATS tests. These are not as scary as they sound! To make sure we are all ready for the SATS it is really important that you read every day at home and practise your spellings each week! Please make sure you bring your reading book and diary back to school each day so that it is ready for reading with an adult.

Children can change their book as often as they like so please write in their reading diaries so we can see how well they are doing at home!

We will finish of the year with a Graduation Celebration Assembly to celebrate the success of the children throughout KS1. We hope to see you all there to congratulate the children and enjoy remembering all the fun we have had over the year!
