Reception – Ash

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as Miss Butterfield, teacher in Ash class and part of the amazing Reception and Wilsden team. I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher this year. This is going to be my fourth year teaching at Wilsden Primary School in Reception where I am taking on a new role as Early Years Manager. I am very much looking forward to the year ahead and cannot wait to get started.

For the first few weeks the children will be settling in and getting to know each other, the school rules and routines. We will be doing lots of talking about ourselves and sharing stories about our home lives. We will be very busy making friends and making lots of lovely models and pictures so we might come home a bit messy; sorry parents!

The Early Years Foundation Stage is about learners experiencing the joy of discovery, solving problems, being creative, developing their self-confidence and building their self-esteem. Through the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort children will learn to love learning.

Children have the opportunity to learn through play. Learning is fun, engaging and challenging. We value the importance of our outdoor environment and believe that it offers children the opportunity to develop their thinking and problem solving skills. Adults will provide high quality interactions; they are role models for learning. The children will access all areas of the curriculum through our provision areas; water, sand, small world, role play, mark making, creative and reading. They will also access our wonderful outdoor classroom where the children can experiment in the mud kitchen, take risks using the balancing equipment and use their imagination to create dens of all shapes and sizes!

I am very much looking forward to working with you and your children and I hope that your children will enjoy school as much as I do!
