Year 6 – Sycamore

Class Teacher: Mrs Howard

Welcome to Year 6 – Sycamore Class

I am really pleased to be teaching Year 6 this year. As it is new to me and the children, I am looking forward to sharing what will no doubt be an exciting learning journey with them. We have a lot to look forward to and have designed topics and learning that will engage the children, inspiring them to produce their best work. During the Autumn term we will be studying Victorian Britain by looking at three significant Victorians and investigating whether they were heroes or villains. In the Spring term we will be learning about the shanty towns of South America through our novel ‘Trash’; and in the Summer term our topic is ‘Arabian Nights’ when we will be looking at ancient Islamic Culture. Threaded throughout our topics will be links to art, geography, history and science as well as opportunities to develop their independent thinking, reasoning and debating skills.

The SATs are obviously a key part of Year 6 and our aim is that the children have the knowledge and strategies to tackle them with confidence and achieve their very best. This year the SATs will take place 14th -17th May 2018.

In the Summer term we will showcase the children’s more creative side in the Year 6 production. They will experience survival training and participate in physical challenges in our annual residential trip to Nell Bank and we will be preparing the children for their transition to secondary school.

If you have any queries at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.
